ISS Animation 30-10-2007 by Chrissyo ISS Animation 30-10-2007 by Chrissyo
These are two animated GIFs of the International Space Station as imaged from my front yard on the 30th of October, 2007. At this the time, the Space Shuttle Discovery was docked.

This is my second go at the ISS, and I'm much happier with how it came out this time around. To capture the AVI I had the my video camera attached to my telescopes eyepiece, and had the field of view aligned with a star. Then, as the ISS began its pass I hand tracked my telescope (which was on its Dobsonian mount) whilst keeping the station in the crosshairs of my finderscope.

Press the 'download' button to the left to see the animations.

Enjoy!

Taken with a 10" F5 Newtonian telescope on a Dobsonian mount. I used a Panasonic miniDV video camera held to a 2" 26mm eyepiece with 7X optical zoom (a magnification of about 340X). The files were transferred to a computer using Windows Movie Maker 2, where the AVI was split into individual frames. These were animated using Animator9.

Whoa, isn't it hard to keep the station in the crosshair section?!

Yup. Out of the (roughly) 1.5 to 2 minutes of each pass, I only really get the ISS to pass through the camera's field of view 3 or 4 times (well, that number has increased lately because I've been practising). Practice makes perfect I guess.
